Somerset - North Coast, Tasmania.

Located on the west bank of the Cam River Somerset is virtually a suburb of Burnie, just 6 kilometres away to the east, and is also a service centre for some of the surrounding districts industry.

Somerset is the easternmost township in the Waratah-Wynyard Council region, an area which takes great pride in its self proclaimed position as the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate amid beautiful surroundings.

Fishing throughout the north-west coast is good and Somerset is a bit of a standout with excellent coastal, off-shore, estuary and river fishing to be had.

The towns three kilometer long beach stretches from the Cam River estuary to the western extremity of the township and provides good, safe swimming in summer and is a hit with walkers year ‘round.

Roughly midway between Burnie to the East and Wynyard to the West, Somerset is in a prime location – far enough away to retain a hint of seclusion but close enough to pretty much everything that matters.  With a population of just less than four thousand, it’s an attractive little town which offers the homliness of a traditional village style shopping centre.

In the heart of Tasmania’s north-west coast Somerset is readily accessible by road from all regions of the island State and, just ten minutes up the road, Wynyard aerodrome provides regular airline services to the mainland.
